The Junior Accountant supports the daily operations of the accounting function and assists senior accountants within Blackstone’s growing, 8-person finance and accounting team. This person will help maintain accurate financial records, assist with transactional accounting tasks, and support monthly close activities. The Junior Accountant plays an essential part in ensuring financial integrity and supporting scalable processes as the company expands. This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented, proactive individual looking to grow their accounting career in a collaborative and purpose-driven environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Senior Accounting team in the preparation of financial reporting for the Blackstone Group of companies within corporate deadlines
  • Assist team leads on the AR and AP functions, and train on the varying steps of the process
  • Contribute to month-end P&L review
  • Support year-end close processes and assemble documentation and information for external audit
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations, including client billings, supplier invoices, bank recs, client rebates, transactional processes
  • Assist with tracking customer deposit accounts and ensure proper documentation (invoice vs. progress approval certificate) is issued to draw down funds
  • Collaborate with internal partners and departments for finance-related requests and queries
  • Identify improvement opportunities in systems/processes
  • Conduct special projects as assigned
  • Manage conflicting priorities

QUALIFICATIONS:

·      Recent graduate from a post-secondary/University Degree with a concentration in finance or accounting

·      1-3 years experience in an accounting and/or financial reporting role (including summer jobs and/or co-op         

        experience)

·      Proficiency with Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

·      Strong analytic, problem solving and critical thinking skills

·      Effective time management and organization skills

·      Detail oriented

·      Excellent oral and written communication skills

·      The ability to work independently and in a team environment

·      Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented, and project-based environment

·      Bookkeeping and data analytics experience an asset
